Second Draft Of Music Front Cover
During me second session on Adobe Indesign I edited my main image to get rid of the bacground and then inserted this into my front cover. During this session I also changed a few design details such as the outline of my slogan, the outline of my band names and the colour of my main banner line. I also included a bar code and created a background using the gradient to create a more girly look to the magazine.
First Draft Of Music Magazine Front Cover
To the left is my first draft of my music magazine front cover. To start with I fouced on getting the basic outlines of the things I needed to include on my front cover including my subsidary image, masthead, banner line, pull quote, sloagan and extra advertisements. Once I had got the basic outline I then started to add colour that represented my genre and also used the options from my questionaire.
My Final Main Image
The image above is the one ive chosen for my main image on my music magazine front cover. I chose this image as I think that it represents a 'pop teen queen' effectively. The posse that my model is doing is really girlie and really shows off her facial expression. The fact that she is wearing bright make-up emphasises a 'pop teen queen' even more. This image would work really well with my layout and would fit in well with my genre.
Main Images
Image One;
The first image i took was of my model in quite a girly posse, i think that this image would look reaaly good on my front cover although I would have to get rid of the background so that we are able to see what the focus of the picture is. Although this picture may look good on my front cover I will have to consider whether it fits in with the layout of my front cover.
Image Two;
This image is really effective as it allows the reader to see what type of style the magazine is. Although this image may be effective I think that the posse doesnt really show that its a music magazine, and it doesnt really emphasise that its girlie. I dont think that I would use this as my main image.
Image Three;
I really like this image as its girlie, it shows off a girly posse and the clothing works really well on my model. Because my model is leaning agaisnt the walls her hands are kind of hidden which spoils the picture a bit, i dont think that this picture would work as effectively on my front cover although it may work well on my full page spread.
Image Four;
The posse that my model did in this picture works really well to emphasise the genre of my magazine, i really like the angle that she is looking at the camera and the way that she stands. The only downside to the photo is the background and the darkness of the picture. Although I could get rid of the background my modle would still look quite dark.

Main Image Ideas
For my main image the results of my questionaire showed that most people would rather a female solo artist. I think that this was a great choice as this is more of a girly magazine which will then be given off in the image.
Costume;
Alike the images of katy Perry I chose, I want my main image to be girly but trendy. I dont want anyhting to over the top but something that will make a statement. I think that Katy Perry does this really well as she adds in her own unique style which gives it more of an edge.
Posse;
The reason I chose these two images is because they are two completely different posses but both work effectively. Although when coming to take images I am going to have a plain white background with more of statement posse.
Model;
The main image taken is all about the model and although I like these images of Katy Perry it may be quite difficult for to find someone similar. Although his may be a problem I think that I will be able to find the perfect person to show off my magazine cover effectively.
Layout Ideas For My Magazine Front Cover
When deciding on what type of layout I would want to use on my magazine I came across these two basic ideas. I think that they are both very effective as they show the main parts of what makes up a music magazine. Although I like these ideas I will have to add a few of my own ideas and change bits of the layout such as; adding in subsidary images, creating my own main image and using different colour schemes.
Both front covers give an insight into what to expect inside the magazine which is what I hope to achieve on my own magazine.
Although these front covers are interesting I think that
with the use of brighter backgrounds and more girly colours I think that I will be able to make my magazine unique.

Questionaire Results
The favourite masthead was 'Starstruck' with four votes, with Pop it being the second chocie with three votes. The slogan that was most popular was 'Top of the charts!' which had half of the votes. The pupils that I gave the questionaire out to mainly bought magazines 'Monthly' or 'Quite often' which is something that I will take into consideration.
When I asked people how much they would be willing to pay for a music magazine?; the results were that most people were willing to pay around '£1.00 or less' with half of the votes, with '£1.00-£2.00' coming in close with four votes. The three main topics that the people would rather read are 'Interviews','Downlaods' and 'Up and coming events'.
Number eight had four votes for 'Solo female artist' showing that people would rather this for the main image on the cover of the music magazine. The main subsidary images that they would prefer are a range between, 'Mixed gender bands','Boy bands' and 'Girl bands'.
When I asked what colour scheme people would prefer the majority of people went with 'Florescent colours', which ended up with four votes, warm colours then came in second with two votes.

Example Of Music Magazine Covers That I Like.
Evaluation Of Front Cover.
The masthead I used for my front cover was 'Eight out of Eight' because it was the most popular masthead that people chose from my market research questionaire. I think that this masthead is effective because it has a strong link with the schools name and it also stands out, catching the pupils attention. I decided to make the words 'eight' in my masthead bigger than 'out of' because I think that it gave my masthead more of a dominant look and it made it more appropriate. Again the colour scheme of my masthead was chosen by pupils involved in doing my questionaire. I think that the colours black and yellow make it stand out more and represent King Henry really well.I think that the size and font of my masthead is reasonable as I didnt want it to be too big so that I wouldnt beable to fit other important things in but I wanted it to be big enough so that it would grab pupils attention. I chose quite a simple font as I didnt want to be to fussy on the style, I think that this font still stands out and isnt to over the top.
My main image for my front cover is of five 6th formers (three boys and two girls) stood on the King Henry School steps all in different postions on the steps. The shot i chose was a medium long shot as I think that it gives the full picture of what 6th form is like. I think that this image works really well with the rest of my magazine as we can see that they are 6th formers due to their clothing and you are still able to see their facial expressions which shows they are all happy, maybe indicating that they are happy to be part of King Henry School. I think that ive got just the right amount of pupils and the perfect size picture for my front cover as i am still able to include three subsidry images.
I have included three subsidary images on my front cover, all across the bottom of my magazine. Originally I was going to have four subsidary images all in various places around my magazine but taking my main image into consideration I decided to put them across the bottom to allow more space. I think that all my images are a good size as you are still able to see what the images are trying to put across. My first image is of a student in a medium close up celebrating his exam results. I am quite happy with this picture as it shows whats going on but I think that the background is too dark and if I was to do it again i would defiantely take this picture with a lighter background. My middle subsidary image is of a group of pupils playing rugby, i am really happy with this iamge as it gives a good view of how seriosuly King Henry takes its sports. My third image is of two pupils showing off the new school uniform, I think that this image shows the school uniform off well but im not to pleased with the bacground as it looks quite dark and un-inviting. All the images that i chose to take were due to my market research questionaire.
I have included six strap-lines within my magazine, the first three are for my subsidary images as it tells the target audience what they could expect inside the magazine.The font that i used for these was the same as my masthead as i think that it links in with the whole look of the page really well. The next strap-line is across the top of the front cover, in bold yellow lettering and a thick black background to catch the readers eye and also to tell them that there is more to look forward to inside the magazine. The middle strap line 'Top news you cannot refuse' i put beneath my masthead, this is a catchy strap line which entises the reader to look through the magazine for information. The font that i used for this strap line was white with black surrounding, i think that if i was to do this again i would have layed this strap line out differently, putting it across the page rather than under-neath one another. My last strap line is across the middle of my page, 'Sixth Formers Tell All', this allows the reader to understand why the main image on my front cover was used.Im not too happy with the font and colour of this strap line as i dont think that it links in with the rest of the front cover, i would definately re-do this part.
I think that the overall layout of my magazine works well, as it semetrical, colourfull, bold and eye catching. There are a few things that i would change about it but i am quite pleased with my first experience of making a front cover.
